Mumbai: The civic body will begin testing nine new technologies for repairing roads over the weekend. Each company will be given a “100-square-metre patch to work on over the weekend. We will then examine the results after Ganpati,” said additional municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta.
Of the nine technologies, Ultratech and Patchmaker have been used in the past, while Patchmaker and Carboncor have been approved by Standing Technical Advisory Committee. The other six are Road Bond (cold mix), Wonder Patch (cold mix), Ecopatch, Jet Patcher, Inkjet Patching machine, Shalipatch and Power Grout .
The BMC also wants to change tender conditions to keep a tab on the monopolistic tendencies of patented technology providers, while also encouraging contractors to use the technologies.
The BMC standing committee has recommended that the civic body start an R&D cell in the roads department. “Its job will be to do research and keep abreast of new technologies,” said committee chairman Rahul Shewale. TNN
